Development of an aesthetically fitting bike rack for a place of choice on Ohio State grounds. The project focus includes a place analysis, design iteration, 1:1 scale concept sketches, presentation, and a 1:18 scale model of the final bike rack.

Ideation/iteration
During the ideation process, we were instructed to focus on finding a form that would suit our chosen location. Form is an integral element of design and can inform the user experience. If a design's form is not coherent, the experience can be muddled. Thus,, for this project, we were advised not to let function concern our design as much as form.

1:1 Scale Drawing
I decided on a bike rack that curves along the pavement, with slats with wheel slots that lean against it. This allows a spot for people to secure their bikes. Orton Hall itself is already a statement historical building, so designing a bike rack that borrows its visual language would be an example of overdesign. Thus, I finalized a practical, simple form for the bike rack that harmonizes with the pavement, allowing easy entry and exit for bicycles.

In this scale drawing, there was not much coherence in the illustrations. I was told to further refine my visualization strategies due to a lack of communication in this 1:1 drawing.
Development
For my final, I decided to create an extension to my 1:18 scale model with a 1:1 detail model to show the wheel slot form. This design was borrowed from other slotted bike racks with minimal changes. The models were made using plywood.
